Covid: ‘I lost my daughter to cancer after the pandemic paused chemotherapy’

The mom of a 31-year-old lady who died from cancer after her chemotherapy was paused due to pandemic Covid measures has spoken publicly for the first time, saying she’s “damaged” by her daughter’s dying.

Kelly Smith from Macclesfield died from bowel cancer in June 2020.

Her mum, Mandy Russell, and pa began a petition calling for an finish to cancer remedy delays, which had greater than 370,000 signatures once they handed it to the authorities this summer time.

Research by the Institute for Public Policy Research has now estimated it may take greater than a decade to clear the cancer-treatment backlog in England.

NHS England mentioned: “While the pandemic inevitably had a knock-on impact on different companies, the NHS continued to prioritise cancer care all through the pandemic and referral and remedy numbers are actually again to regular ranges.”
