Japanese GP: 2021 edition canceled amid ongoing coronavirus crisis

The cancellation of the race, scheduled for the weekend of October 8-10 on the Suzuka circuit, follows the abandonment of Singapore’s October 1-3 evening race.

“Following ongoing discussions with the promoter and authorities in Japan, the choice has been taken by the Japanese authorities to cancel the race this season on account of ongoing complexities of the pandemic within the nation,” Formula One stated in a press release.

“Formula One is now engaged on the small print of the revised calendar and can announce the ultimate particulars within the coming weeks.”

Japan lately hosted the Olympic Games in Tokyo with out the presence of spectators, whereas the Paralympic competitions, scheduled from Aug. 24 to Sept. 5, may even be held with out followers in attendance.
