Malaysian Authorities Destroy Millions of Dollars Worth of Bitcoin Mining Equipment

Over a thousand Bitcoin mining machines have been steamrolled in Malaysia amid allegations that the homeowners used stolen electrical energy to energy their rigs.

According to a report by native publication The Star, Malaysian authorities confiscated 1,069 Bitcoin mining rigs and used a steamroller to destroy the machines at a police station within the metropolis of Miri.

According to the report, eight individuals have been arrested in reference to the Bitcoin mining operation which is alleged to have siphoned electrical energy price round $2 million from electrical utility firm Sarawak Energy.

Six of the arrested have been efficiently charged and fined roughly $1,900, in accordance with Miri’s Assistant Commissioner of Police, Hakemal Hawari.

A video of the steam curler flattening the mining rigs in Miri has garnered over 300,000 views in a span of three days. The video was posted by Malaysian publication Dayak Daily.

According to the report, the steamrolled mining rigs had been collectively price about $1.26 million.

Says Hawari,

“The electrical energy theft for mining Bitcoin actions has precipitated frequent energy outages and in 2021, three homes had been razed as a result of unlawful electrical energy provide connections.”
