SpaceX has apologized to Starlink clients after pushing back some preorders, saying that silicon shortages have slowed production of its internet kit.

Starlink, a subsidiary of SpaceX, advised clients who paid a $100 deposit within the first half of this 12 months, that the beta model of the satellite tv for pc internet service ought to be up and operating of their space in mid- to late 2021.

This week, preorder customers have complained on social media, saying that they will not be getting Starlink till subsequent 12 months, regardless of already ready months for the service.

“Silicon shortages during the last six months have slowed our anticipated production fee and impacted our capacity to fulfill many Starlink orders this 12 months,” Starlink stated in an e mail, which was posted on Twitter and forwarded to Insider from a buyer who ordered the service earlier than May.

Starlink stated within the e mail that preorder clients can verify their estimated delivery times on their Starlink account.

Starlink has beforehand stated that the global chip shortage was delaying the production of user terminals — the dishes that join to the 1,639 satellites in orbit.

Jesse Nowlin, a buyer who ordered Starlink in February for his property in San Diego, advised Insider that the corporate stated he’d have the service in mid-to late 2021. But Starlink has postponed the date to January 2022, he stated.
